Story behind the mysterious Mitsubishi Evolution 9
The Mitsubishi Evolution, commonly known as the ‘EVO’ is the sports sedan based on the average Lancer manufactured by Mitsubishi. To date there have been 10 official versions that were made that came with the standard 2litre turbocharged set up and an AWD drivetrain.
This particular ‘Evo’ belongs to Hiran Kevitiyagala, who initially bought it as an original ‘Evo8’ but later on decided to convert it to an ‘EVO9’, which is now the fastest ‘Evo’ in the country winning the hearts of all the ‘Evo’ fan boys and fan girls after taking on two extremely built Nissan GTRs and defeating both thereby taking first place in its category and clocking an astonishing 10.63s at the local Drag meet held recently.
Some of the modifications gone into this car are its 2000cc fuel injectors, Okada projects plasma coil ignition system, 2.3litre Tomei stroker kit, upgraded Garret GTX35 Turbo, an AMS front mount intercooler, titanium exhaust with an ETS T3 manifold Quaife rear and center LSD’s, Tein adjustable coilovers, 6pot GT Brembo brakes on the front and 4pot GT Brembo brakes on the rear giving it that extra stopping power and a genuine set of OZ Alleggerita wheels, it also runs on non-other than premium quality Liqui Moly engine oil giving it that slight bit of efficiency to get the most out of it’s built motor. The car has been built and tuned from scratch by Sabry Abdul Salam from ‘Platinum Auto Spa’, who mapped and drove the car, leading it to its podium finish that has left everyone wondering where this car came from and filling the timelines and wallpapers of all those who attended the drag races in Katukurunda this year.
